Gokyo Lake Trek
The Gokyo Lake Trek in Nepal is one of the most rewarding alternatives to the crowded Everest Base Camp route.
The trek takes you to the beautiful turquoise Gokyo Lakes, a chain of glacial lakes sitting at around 4,700–5,000 meters. They’re among the highest freshwater lakes in the world and are sacred in both Hindu and Buddhist traditions.
Compared to the classic Everest route, the Gokyo trail is quieter. You’ll still pass through famous Sherpa villages like Namche Bazaar, but beyond that, the path becomes more peaceful and remote.
The trek passes monasteries, prayer flags, and traditional Sherpa settlements. The lakes themselves are pilgrimage sites, especially during Janai Purnima.
